Firefly's stardom was because she was a part of Whedon's next TV hit, Firefly. The Summer Glau River Tam character was complex and Glau was able to handle it. Tam has to take part in experiments sponsored by the government to prepare her to be the greatest assassin. Tam's ability to manage emotions was taken away from her. In Firefly Glau was in a position to display not only her acting abilities but also her skills in fighting. The training she received as an assassin allowed her the chance to utilize the full range of athletic skills she has. Summer Glau was classically-trained as dancer. The injury to her right foot however that caused the end of her dancing career. Firefly lasted only one season but it gained a passionate audience. Whedon got so passionate about the show that he returned two years after. In the meantime though, Summer Glau continued to receive some prestigious work. Her work included TV shows Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
